Let us introduce you to some of the best things to do on Big Island Hawaii. The turtles like to come here to feed and sun themselves- sort like Spring Break for turtles (so the Ranger told us).Are you looking to plan an adventurous Hawaiian vacation? You’ve come to the right place. Point of clarification- we ready one review that stated the turtles were nesting on the beach, however, as the ranger explained, the only turtle nesting site in the entire state of Hawaii is on Maui. It was quite enjoyable and we even spent a few minutes walk, studying, and learning about the historical sites in the Park. Within minutes we spotted 9 turtles within mere steps.- don’t get closer than 10’. A park ranger was very helpful in answering our questions about the turtles and added several key insights. Signs helpfully pointed out that sea turtles like to bath and sun close to the shoreline and soon enough we were able to spot numerous sea turtles in the shallow waters. After a short walk through the gate we were at the beach. We went to the Visitors Center and they were very helpful there, explaining that they would be closing soon and locking the gates but that we could drive to the Harbor just minutes away and enter the park through a different gate that is easily accessible. My wife really wanted to see some sea turtles and after research and some positive reviews we felt confident we would be able find some sea turtles.
